Unibody Repair in the Antelope Valley
Almost every car, crossover, and small SUV on the road today has no separate frame.
The body is the frame, one welded steel structure engineered to fold in exact places during a crash so the cabin does not.
That is why unibody damage is never just cosmetic. A rail that is half an inch out of spec changes how your vehicle steers, how its tires wear, and how it protects you in the next collision.
Westside Body and Paint has offered on-site PDR alongside full collision repair long before it was trendy.
We are family-owned, open since 1978, and located at 5054 West Ave. M-2 in Quartz Hill, about fifteen minutes from central Palmdale.
Drivers here have voted us the Antelope Valley’s Best Body Shop eight years running, including 2023, 2024, and 2025. Estimates are free. Call (661) 943-3639.
Measured, Pulled, and Proven
Guesswork has no place in structural work, so ours runs in four documented steps.
First, a computerized point-to-point measuring system maps your vehicle’s rail lengths, widths, and diagonals against factory data, which tells us exactly what moved and by how much.
Second, we blueprint the repair using OEM procedures, which dictate whether a section gets pulled back into spec or cut out and replaced.
Third, the Car-O-Liner bench applies controlled hydraulic pressure for the pulls, and any sectioned rails are welded to manufacturer specifications.
Fourth, we re-measure, perform a wheel alignment, and recalibrate ADAS sensors if the repair disturbed them.
You do not have to take our word for any of it. The pre-repair and post-repair measurement printouts are attached to your invoice, so the unibody repair that Palmdale insurers and future buyers ask about is documented down to the millimeter.
Why Unibody Damage Is Different From a Dent
A dented fender is a panel problem. A shifted unibody is a geometry problem.
The structure was stamped and welded to tolerances measured in millimeters, and its crumple zones only absorb crash energy correctly when every rail sits where the engineer put it.
Bend that geometry and the damage hides behind straight-looking sheet metal: doors that catch, a steering wheel that sits off-center, tires that scrub, safety sensors aimed at nothing. Trucks and larger SUVs still ride on ladder frames, and we straighten those too, but the measuring discipline is the same either way.
Two Lines We Will Not Cross
- We do not over-pull modern steel: Ultra-high-strength steel gets its crash performance from heat treatment, and dragging it back into shape with hydraulics weakens it invisibly. When OEM procedures call for it, the damaged rail is sectioned out and replaced instead. Pulling everything is cheaper, which is exactly why some shops do it, and exactly why you should ask any shop how it decides between pulling and replacing.
- We will not rebuild a car that should not be rebuilt: When damage pushes past the insurer’s total-loss threshold or past what can be restored to factory strength, we say so, and we supply the measurements and photos that support a fair valuation. Losing a big structural job stings less than putting a compromised vehicle back under a family.
Insurance, Timelines, and the Warranty Behind It
Structural repair is safety-critical work, so it is covered under collision policies, and as a preferred provider for AAA and State Farm, we handle the estimate, the supplement negotiations, and the documentation your adjuster needs.
Be realistic about time: unibody work sits at the long end of collision repair, commonly one to three weeks depending on parts availability and how much hidden damage the teardown reveals. We update you as it moves, and our rental partners, Hertz and Enterprise, keep you driving in the meantime.
The work itself is backed by our lifetime labor warranty, which covers body, frame, mechanical, suspension, and refinish work for as long as you own the vehicle. Parts carry two years of coverage or the manufacturer’s term, whichever runs longer.
Insurance Claims and Our Warranty
If your paintwork is part of an accident claim, we are a preferred provider for AAA and State Farm, and we handle the estimate, photos, and adjuster paperwork directly.
Our refinish labor is covered by a lifetime warranty for as long as you own the vehicle—the same coverage we put on body, frame, mechanical, and suspension work. Parts carry two years of coverage or the manufacturer’s term, whichever is longer.
If the job keeps your car for a while, our rental partners, Hertz and Enterprise, can keep you driving.
Frequently Asked Questions
Watch for a car that pulls to one side, uneven or rapid tire wear, doors or the trunk that no longer close cleanly, and visible gaps between panels that used to be even. After any moderate impact, the only sure answer is a computerized measurement, which is part of our free damage assessment.
Treat it as no. A misaligned structure changes handling, accelerates tire wear, and can prevent crumple zones and airbag sensors from performing as designed in a second collision. If your vehicle took a hard hit, have it measured before putting miles on it. We coordinate towing if it should not be driven.
Yes. Structural damage is safety-critical and covered under collision policies. We work directly with seven major carriers as a preferred provider, document the damage with measurements and photos, and handle supplements when teardown reveals more than the initial estimate showed.
It can. When repair costs pass the insurer's threshold, or the structure cannot be returned to factory strength, the vehicle is declared a total loss. We provide the measurement reports and photos that support an accurate valuation, and we will not push a repair we would not stand behind.
Longer than cosmetic work, honestly. Plan on one to three weeks for most structural jobs, with parts backorders, insurer approvals, and hidden damage found during teardown as the usual reasons a timeline stretches. We give you a realistic estimate after measuring, not before.
A ladder frame is a separate steel skeleton that the body bolts onto, still used on most trucks and some large SUVs. A unibody merges body and frame into one welded structure, which is lighter and safer in a crash, but it means structural damage and body damage are often the same damage. We repair both types.
